An all-day trip from New Orleans that can be spread over 2 days if you want to take your time exploring the sights.
I tried to stay off major highways as much as possible whenever there was a sensible alternative.
I headed straight out to Grand Isle and then touched some towns on the way back: Houma, Morgan City and Thibodaux.
Grand Isle is very picturesque and the State Park there has a nice beach (gulf water but still nice and somewhat refreshing for a quick swim) and facilities if you want to stay overnight and camp. Houma is not a very pretty town, but has a good food place worth stopping at if you are hungry (see below).
Morgan City has a great old rusty iron bridge worth riding through, and some docks to look at, apparently there are good food options here too but I did not investigate.
Thibodaux has a really nice historical downtown district, worth taking a look at.
Lots of tasty food to be had throughout the route, but I can recommend Joe Bob for a quick bite in Grand Isle, The Shack in Houma or one of the few places in the Thibodaux historical downtown area.
Enjoy and ride safe!
This is a nice daytrip out from New Orleans to the end of the Mississippi river, with virtually no highway/motorway use.
The road gets progressively more scenic as you leave the city, going through a lot of rural / swampland and bayou landscape.
Once you get to the end (past Port Sulphur) it gets even more scenic with some really interesting points where the road is really close to the water.
Nice food stop at LA 23 BBQ, either on your way out or back depending on your timing (it is only 30 mins out from the city).
Enjoy!
A nice leisurely ride along River Road in Plantation country. When you're not seeing a plantation, you're getting a view of the farming community and passing through refineries. Great, secluded ride for the most part once you're out of the metro area. Riding through St John's Parish is the best part of the ride. Roads are smooth for about 95%, no police presence until you pass two substations, which even then, they weren't out patrolling the area. Some good sharp turns in some spots but mainly just slights curves and straight shots. Not much traffic either.
good country buffet at 35 diner

After Chapter Meeting Ride
Nice little scenic ride.
Shreveport to Homer and Return
beginning of a route that I may use, I'll go ride it soon to check the details on it.
Just a couple friends getting wind therapy on a Sunday.
This route that I've laid out is one for enjoying the scenery of north Louisiana. This route is not one to ride fast or aggressively. Lots of hills, curves, and blind driveways. Some sections of the roads are in good condition while others are full of pothole patches. Lots of farms and horse ranches. I live in this area and love it!
gulf coast scenery without much interstate travel... makes for some nice spots to stop along the way as well
country stroll w/ some nice sights
Love this sceene & can't beat southern hospitality
Pleasant and cool forest ride with some nice curves.
Nice mix of roads. Theres curvy bits around the river (check corners for dirt/sand), woodsy bits on 22 through some nice twisties to Ponchatoula, then up to Folsom, la40 to Bush and back across the Causeway. Nice half day ride. Can side trip to Abita factory, too...
