Not the best of roads too much traffic not enough corners sorry

Overall a good route north, certainly better than the A1. The best section is about 10/15 miles either side of Carter Bar (Scottish border) where there are some fantastic bends, open road and great views. South of this tends to be twisty with poor visibility - hidden dips etc, north of this section lots of speed changes and cameras through the towns and villages. Still my route of choice to Edinburgh though.

sorry but this is about as boring a ride as it gets. its a useful trans border jaunt but too busy, too few features, too many cops, cameras, tourists and trucks.

Best route from A1 to Edinburgh....wide open spaces to enjoy roads and scenery

One of the all time great routes. Especially like the section north of the A69 until you cross the border. Some lovely straights but lots of hidden dips and blind summits so overtake with care. Pretty remote until you get to Jedburgh but some decent places to stop once you get past here

A long scenic trip north and the only major road to cross the England / Scotland border for a long distance either way. Sweeping past the Border at Carter Bar, the A68 takes in Jedburgh (one of Britain's most majestic ruined abbeys) and Thirlestane Castle (near Lauder) which was originally as a medieval fortress.

my favourite bits over the blind summits between Rochester and Corbridge too many speed cameras once you get north of the border

Really nice and scenic long section that includes a whole variety of nice corners and straights along its length. The surrounding (mostly a National Park) is really good. As it is a main route, it can have quite heavy traffic.
